Fanatics Betting & Gaming received an iGaming operator registration from Ontario's Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO) on August 13, 2026, marking the company's first entry into any international gambling market. The two-year registration covers both Fanatics Sportsbook and Fanatics Casino, putting Ontario on notice that one of the most capitalised names in US sports betting is coming for a share of its revenues.
Ontario's private iGaming market generated C$4.2 billion in gross gaming revenue in Year 4 and now hosts 48 licensed operators running 83 active gaming websites as of August 6, 2026. A 91.1% channelization rate — meaning nine in ten online bets placed by Ontarians land on a regulated site — makes the province one of the most efficiently regulated markets anywhere, and a compelling first target for Fanatics' international expansion.

The Licence
The AGCO registration, confirmed between August 11–13, 2026, is a two-year term that authorises Fanatics to offer both sports betting and casino products in Ontario. A registration from the AGCO is a necessary but not sufficient condition to take real-money wagers — Fanatics must still execute a commercial operating agreement with iGaming Ontario (iGO), the government entity that conducts and manages the private market. That agreement is expected later in summer 2026, according to industry trade publication Canadian Gaming Business.
The AGCO registration process requires operators to meet standards covering responsible gambling tools, anti-money laundering controls, technical system certification, and ongoing reporting obligations. Fanatics has met those thresholds across every US jurisdiction where it operates, giving regulators a deep compliance record to evaluate.
Fanatics' Footprint
Before its Ontario application, Fanatics Sportsbook was live in 23 US states plus Washington D.C., covering approximately 95% of the addressable US online sports betting market. Fanatics Casino operates in 4 US states. The company's competitive differentiator is its integration with the broader Fanatics merchandise and collectibles ecosystem, allowing bettors to convert winnings into FanCash redeemable across sports gear, trading cards, and event tickets — a loyalty mechanic no incumbent Ontario operator currently replicates.
Recent Ontario entrants provide context for the competitive landscape Fanatics is joining. Hard Rock Bet and DAZN Bet both launched in the province within the six months prior to the Fanatics announcement, per SCCG Management. Neither has displaced the incumbents — DraftKings, BetMGM, and bet365 remain the market's dominant forces by estimated handle.
Entering a Crowded Market
Ontario's market has matured rapidly since regulated private operators launched in April 2022. The channelization rate has climbed from 83.7% at launch to 91.1% by the May 2026 Ipsos study, meaning the pool of bettors still using grey-market offshore sites is shrinking. That leaves new entrants competing primarily for share of an already-regulated customer base, not converting unregulated players.
Amanda Brewer, SVP at the Canadian Gaming Association, put the challenge plainly: "One could argue the market reached saturation some time ago, so new entrants are likely coming in with their eyes wide open."
Key headwinds for any new entrant in Ontario include:
- High customer acquisition costs driven by incumbent marketing spend
- Tight AGCO restrictions on advertising, particularly around inducements and bonusing
- iGO's revenue-share model, which adds a cost layer absent in most US state frameworks
- Entrenched player loyalty programs at DraftKings, BetMGM, and PointsBet
What Ontario Bettors Get
For bettors, Fanatics' arrival means an additional competitive option with a distinct loyalty proposition. The FanCash rewards system allows users to earn currency redeemable against Fanatics' merchandise catalogue — a genuine differentiator in a market where most loyalty programs return cash or free bets only. Whether that proposition is enough to move bettors away from established accounts remains to be seen once the platform goes live.
On the product side, Fanatics has invested heavily in same-game parlays, live betting infrastructure, and a mobile-first interface in the US market. Ontario bettors can expect feature parity with the US app from day one, given the province uses the same technical certification standards as most US jurisdictions.
